New Zealand#10… Cute little farm!

December 10, 2016

(Português no fim)
We were almost at the end of our South Island expedition… Only 2 more stops! We heard about this place a long time ago when we started to plan our trip, it’s a farm on the countryside with animals, waterfalls and glow worms. As soon as we arrived the lady at the entrance gave us a basket of muffins, they were just out of the oven, still warm and the smell was all over the campervan. She also gave us a bag of food to feed the animals, that the kids couldn’t wait to do! We parked on our muddy spot (it had been raining, the usual, and the campsite was mud all over) and we ran to give some food to the sheep and the goats. Teresa and Francisco could spend hours like this… We walked around and saw, roosters, rabbits and other animals. They wanted to feed the cows too, but they were to big to mess around so we just looked at them from the outside of the fence. They spent the rest of the time jumping on the trampoline, it started to rain again but they couldn’t care less, they just kept jumping. There’s a walk to a cascade and to a forest with glow worms, we were planing to do both after dinner, so we could reach the cascade still during daylight and on the way back see some glow worms, at nigh when it was darker… Well that was our idea, but it started to rain so much that we just gave up, maybe tomorrow! The day after rained again so much that we basically stayed inside most of the day, it was lighter for a few minutes and we ran to give the animals a little more food. The place was really nice and had a nice relaxing feeling, we just wished we had had better luck with the weather, at this point we don’t mind rain, but when it’s pouring it’s too much! We were sad we couldn't walk to the cascade and the glow worms, maybe another time…
The name of the place is Smiths Farm Holiday Park, make sure you don’t miss it. It’s a nice spot on the way to Picton to take the ferry, or to Kaikora on our case…
